Helping Educators & Parents Use SEL to Holistically Develop Their Students & Themselves
Years ago, the Three R’s - Reading, ‘Riting, and ‘Rithmetic- were established to signify the essential components of school. While no one can argue the vitality of reading, writing, and arithmetic, most of us realize it takes more to ensure we support the success of the entire child. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is also a needed component.
SEL is the knowledge, behaviors, and actions needed to understand and manage emotions, set positive goals, feel empathy for others, engage in positive relationships, and solve problems effectively. The Collaboration for Social, Emotional, and Academic Learning (CASEL) is a highly regarded source for SEL and serves as the foundation of SELf-Development's work.
CASEL's SEL framework consists of five competencies, which are Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making. Our SELf-Development facilitators are passionate counselors, social workers, and teachers who are devoted to helping educators and parents understand as well as develop CASEL's five competencies both in their students and themselves.
